Italian embryo calves
Four years after our most recent trip to Italy, we believe we have some outstanding calves and yearlings on the ground from our resulting embryo importation program.
Four yearling bulls have been selected for our own use representing the great Italian sires Ramses and Brama. "Fred", Franklin", "Friar Tuck" and "Ferrari" will both complement and enhance our herd and those of our clients in coming years.
They are easy-doing bulls who have medium frame scores combined with peer leading weight gain and faultless temperaments. The recent drop are still quite young however their sire Marte and dams Fiaba and Odette have extremely strong maternal traits and we look forward to seeing their development under Australian conditions.
Our Brahmagnola breeding program has ramped up with the purchase of Brahman sire, Carinya Jericho from John Kirk & Family, Carinya Brahmans Gayndah at the Rockhampton Brahman Week sales in October 2010. Jericho has been mated to a selection of our leading fullblood cows and heifers and we look forward to the arrival of his first progeny this year. He is an extremely easy doing bull with great depth and natural fleshing through the hindquarter. We believe he will compliment the Romagnola cows perfectly with his softness and structure.
Jericho will be used to produce Brahmagnola bulls for sale and F1 heifers to be mated back to Romagnola bulls in our upgrade program. Romagnola Beef Genetics also secured a semen package in the multi award winning Carinya Riddell who has been used in AI and ET programs with success.
James Bond was used lightly last year and his first calves have been impressive. He was Grand Champion Romagnola Bull at the Ekka in 2009 and is a big, strong sire with an impeccable pedigree. His father, Zorro (now deceased) was one of the best bulls we have ever produced and his mother Zoe was also a show champion out of our great cow Winona. James Bond's calves are long and thick and have the sire appeal of their father. We look forward to seeing them develop and are very confident they will continue to impress.
Semen for Sale
Romagnola Beef Genetics has semen available in a number of our leading Italian and Australian bred sires including Winchester, pictured. These bulls are all used extensively in our our own herd with daughters and their progeny available for inspection. More information is available on our Semen Sires page.
and the good times roll...
The good season experienced at Bulala throughout last year has continued with 2010 panning out as one of our wettest years on record. In total we measured 50 inches of rain for the year. 2011 has also started off well also with nearly ten inches falling to date this year. The country looks a picture with a full soil moisture profile pointing towards another good year ahead. Our sale bulls will be presented in good paddock condition with a minimum of supplement needed.
